Tribute to my Brother

You know? Often the thought of having family(9) around in a 4BR townhouse, over a scorching summer season of festivities can be a nightmare in itself. BUT, I was surprised that I actually had a ball and now misses my Brisbane mob- my brother Alan's family.

They travelled, they came, they ate, they played and they left us,... with many memories.

My brother took time out of his busy schedule, packed his 2 boys, wife and my dad into their 4WD and did a 6 day road trip south to our humble South Coast. On arrival, we celebrated Christmas and watched as the kids (my two girls and theirs) played together, slept in the same room, fought, ate on the same table and showed us immense difference between the Xs and Ys of chromosomes.

I do miss my brother. He's quite a handful of an adult yet he is every bit endearing to me. Ah boy (as we call him), loves his gadgets and gizmos. As most toys are often very self absorbing, he is always the first to tell you that he gets stuff "for his family". Hence their entire family car is full of stuff. I have no reason or doubt of my brother's commitment and love to my family. He's one of the last to trust any man to come near me. Now he's good friends with Alex. He will tell me "as is" even if he is DEAD wrong. He's the first to call me FAT (I tried to convince him that I am in fact a SUPERMODEL) and the last to tell me my cooking is nice (after his third helping of Kuching Laksa). He enjoys deep and meaningful conversations about life, work and family.

Ever since I left home for Oz-land donkey years ago, Alan's been my constant "wind beneath my wing". Since then, our roles have reversed several occasions as we learn from each other the different things life brings us. Alan's ear is there (if I leave messages) for me to pour out to. We re-lived all that in the short 4 days together. It was like OLD times. It's moments like these I wish we all lived in the same cities.
