I never saw this coming but Mathena is now phobic with public toilets.
Singapore is a very gizmo-ey city. The newer and more upmarket areas have nicely self regulating toilets which are sensor activated. The toilets flushes at intervals as well as when one person is "finished" and stands up! What drama can come from that? Is this the solution to a cleaner city?
First we line up (you line up EVERYWHERE in Singapore), then we approached a cubicle with trepidation. While helping undress Mathena, we are bound to hear the toilet flushed just before she's lifted onto the seat. That's the first shock!
Then as I am waiting with her in the cubicle (thus casting shadows on the sensor), she gets another flush WHILE on the seat!!! She screams and freaks out! Then immediately after that, whatever "urges" little Mathena had is all gone and she's climbing onto me to go..
See: Funny article re KL toilets
The toilets here looks ordinary but FEELS like this monster!

Poor girl.
When my daughter first encounter this incident, she ask me, "Mummy, just now who flush the toilet for me?" I was puzzle but realized it's the sensor flusher.
OOoooh I remember! When I was a teenager they even freaked me out! Singapore reuses their water anyway 'New Water' they call it, so each flush will be coming out of your taps in a while anyway, so not such a waste. They're actually leading the world in this type of technology, alot of it has to do with the type of 'democracy' it is. People are informed of what they are willing to accept and what to value, whereas the reality may be somewhat different. So drink up!
Hi Sarah,
Here is what you should do. Bring some Scotch tape and use the toilet paper to cover the sensor before Methena sit on it to disable the sensor. After she finished, you remove the tapes and it flushes.
Sometimes, the sensor just too sensitive that a small move by Methena trigger the flush.
I hope it help!
cheers,
Kelvin
